Join Our Board as an Independent Governor

Gateshead College is seeking an experienced and dedicated individual to join our Board of Governors as an Independent Governor. We are particularly interested in candidates with skills or experience in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEN) or careers guidance. We would be looking for this recruit to join our College Board and our Curriculum & Quality Standards Committee.

About the Role

As an Independent Governor, you will play a crucial role in providing support, challenge, and oversight to the senior leaders of the College. You will contribute to the strategic direction and governance of the College, ensuring that we continue to deliver high-quality education and support to our students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic oversight and guidance on matters related to SEN or careers.
  • Support the development and implementation of policies and initiatives that enhance the educational experience for all students.
  • Work collaboratively with other governors and senior leaders to ensure effective governance and decision-making.
  • Attend and actively participate in Board meetings and relevant committee meetings.

 

Skills and Experience:
  • Proven experience in SEN or careers guidance.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the education sector.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and contribute to the College’s long-term vision.
  • Commitment to the values and mission of Gateshead College.

Upcoming Meeting Dates
  • Board Meeting – Wednesday 2nd April 2025 – 4pm to 6pm
  • Board Strategy Day – Thursday 3rd April 2025 – 9am to 4pm
  • Curriculum and Quality Standards Committee – Thursday 12th June 2025 – 4pm to 6pm
  • Board Meeting – Wednesday 2nd July 2025 – 4pm to 6pm

Our Board meets 4 times per year, plus 2 strategy days. These meetings are scheduled to take place on a Wednesday, running from 4pm to 6pm.

Our Curriculum and Quality Standards Committee meets 4 times per year. These meetings are scheduled to take place on a Thursday, running from 4pm to 6pm.
