Two Gateshead College students recently took the capital by storm with a recent trip to Topshop HQ to pitch their innovative business idea.
Business students Jack Holmes, 17, and Saman Hangomi, 18, had the opportunity to pitch a new internal communications idea to Topshop in the Metro Centre. Their concept impressed the Topshop team so much that they were selected to go down to Topshop HQ in London and present their idea to the marketing team.
Jack Holmes said: “Although it was an early start (with a 6am train from Newcastle!) it was a fantastic. We went down with two of the business lecturers and we got to spend the day in London. It was a little nerve racking before we went in but we had one of the best experiences of our lives. The Topshop team was blown away by our ideas. The day could not have gone any better.”
“It was a great insight into the real world of business. At Gateshead College I’ve had the opportunity to experience how to run a business – from advertising and events to intellectual property and copyright. I also learned a lot about meeting people through networking. The thing I enjoyed most about my course was the marketing side of things as this is an area I eventually want to work in.
“Alongside my studies I already run a pop up shop selling vinyl and playing them at venues around the North East. When I finish college I’m excited to move into the real life business world, using what I’ve learned at Gateshead College and the experience I’ve gained to help me to do it.”
Jack and Saman are studying Level 3 Business.
