TW Plumbing and Heating Ltd has been named as one of the North East’s best employers in the regional final of the National Apprenticeship Awards and National Training Awards 2012.
TW Plumbing and Heating won Small Employer of the Year after their entry was one of the small percentage that proceeded through the initial assessment stage and on to the area judging panel. It had been a difficult decision for the judges to reach from the exceptional entries they received this year, but TW Plumbing & Heating was the clear winner on the night, and judges announced the application will now automatically move forward to the National Judging Panel. The judges also commended the company for notably playing a leading part in putting Apprenticeships at the heart of what they do, whilst encouraging ambition and enterprise.
Gateshead College have supported TW Plumbing and Heating during the employment of their apprentice and four of the plumbers currently employed by TW Plumbing & Heating Ltd were trained and qualified by undertaking an apprenticeship at Gateshead College.
Martin Whitehead, director at TW Plumbing and Heating said, “Apprentices have proven to be invaluable as each of the apprentices receives expert training from the start, coupled with a comprehensive day release training at Gateshead College. Collaboratively, we have worked together to plan the apprentices' individual training requirements together with the needs of the Company."
Another success of the night was employer Love Food and their apprentice Marc Koublan. Both ‘Love Food’ and their Chef Apprentice ‘Marc Kouablan’ were invited to the ceremony after achieving a place in the final. Love Food was highly commended as Small Employer of the Year and Marc Kouablan was highly commended for Intermediate Apprentice of the Year. Both the employer and the apprentice received a trophy and certificate. Marc also received £150 of metro centre vouchers.
Love Food have worked with the apprenticeship department since 2011 with the development of the College catering programmes and have an excellent relationship with staff.

Sue Price, Divisional Area Director for the North, from the National Apprenticeship Service, said: “This year’s awards were a terrific showcase of the outstanding wealth of talent that we have across the North East. Given the volume and high calibre of entries we received, I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate TW Plumbing and Heating for this superb achievement. They are a testament to the many benefits Apprenticeships bring to businesses, allowing employers to tap into new raw talent, up-skill their staff and grow.”
