Marriott announce Talent Surgery to fill vacancies

The hotel chain has announced a jobs open day to help fill a range of vacancies across their four prestigious North East hotels on Wednesday 30th May between 2.00pm and 8.00pm.

A range of vacancies including food and beverage staff, leisure club assistants and conferencing and event staff will be on offer, with representatives from both the Newcastle Gateshead Marriott Hotel Metrocentre and the Newcastle Gosforth Park Marriott Hotel on hand to discuss the roles and the skills required.

Libbi Benson, Human Resources Manager at the Newcastle Gosforth Park Marriott Hotel, said,

"We are holding our first Talent Surgery at the hotel and expect the range of vacancies will appeal to a lot local jobseekers. I really look forward to seeing some of these starting a long career with Marriott."

Alongside the event, Marriott are also working with Jobcentre Plus and Gateshead College to give several local unemployed people the chance to undergo a short training course followed by a four-week placement with the hotelier, while continuing to receive their Jobseekers Allowance.

"We've done these before and found some great staff," said Libbi. "It gives those who may have been out of work for a while or with little recent work experience, the chance to show us what they can do."

One person who recently took advantage of this opportunity was Carlie Bradley. Carlie, 22, from Gateshead had some previous experience in bar work but a lengthy spell of unemployment and a series of rejections, found her confidence dropping:

"The chance to do the training and a placement was brilliant for me," she said. "I used the time to learn new things like the reception role and every day I was adding real life examples to my CV - and quizzing my colleagues on their knowledge. It soon got my enthusiasm and confidence going again"

Carlie impressed so much she was initially offered a part-time role at the Gosforth hotel and then successfully applied for a full-time vacancy.

"I am really grateful for the chance and I am pleased I was able to make the most of it," Carlie said. "I feel like I am standing on my own two feet again and I am saving up for a little car of my own."
