Unemployed people in the North East are being given the chance to jet-off to a new overseas career with a major international travel company.
Gateshead College is working with Jobcentre Plus (JCP) to recruit 30 holiday resort children’s reps for TUI – the international travel and leisure group behind well-known brands including Thomson Holidays, First Choice and Laterooms.com.
The college is hosting a week of drop-in events from January 7 to 11 for anyone who is interested in working abroad as a childcare rep for summer 2013. Anyone over the age of 18 can go along to the events at Pelaw Youth Centre, Gateshead to find out more and register their interest.
A TUI childcare rep is responsible for such tasks as hosting welcome meetings, picking-up guests from the airport, daytime and evening activities, child minding and looking after the youngsters checking-in to the resort kids’ clubs.
Those applicants who are selected from the drop-in days will go on to complete two-weeks of pre-employment training, which will be delivered by Gateshead College at the youth centre at the end of January.
This will include interview technique and presentations skills along with providing the applicants with a clear understanding of what TUI is looking for in its new employees.
On completion of the training the candidates will have a guaranteed interview with TUI, which will be held locally at the college’s Baltic Campus.

Gateshead College is also delivering an intensive four-week programme to put candidates through a Level 2 NVQ in Childcare for anyone who wishes to apply for one of the roles but does not have the NVQ or an equivalent qualification – which is one of the TUI requirements for the role of childcare rep.
The recruitment drive for TUI is the latest in a number of initiatives run by Gateshead College in partnership with Jobcentre Plus to support unemployed people to secure employment. Through similar programmes the college has supported individuals to get back to work with Marriott Hotels, DHL Logistics and Nissan.
Open days will take place at Pelaw Youth Centre, Shields Road, Pelaw, Gateshead NE10 0QD between 10am and 3pm from January 7 to 11.
