Best student eats in Gateshead (and Newcastle)

One of my favourite parts of college was being able to venture out on my lunch break and be so close to different places to eat. I thought I’d compile a list of my favourite places that you can visit on your lunch.

Greggs
Location: Gateshead Trinity Square
Price: £

Greggs is a cult favourite. What’s not to love? Cheap, lots of healthy choices and of course, sweet indulgences and crispy pastries. The most popular options being a sausage roll and an oval bite. Greggs have recently upped their food game and have introduced lots of new salads, flatbreads, light bites and soups. There’s something for everyone now and all at a reasonable price.

The pastry princes have a new app out too, which is a points system. Great for everyday visits (hello morning bacon sandwich and coffee for £2, I’m looking at you…) as after a while you’ll have enough for a free lunch! They also do a student offer, if you buy a meal deal you get either a free sausage roll or cake. Brilliant.

Tesco
Location: Gateshead Trinity Square & Quayside
Price: £

Just 10 minutes away from the college, the famous Tesco Meal Deal is a no brainer. Main, side and drink for £3. Doesn’t really get much better than that does it?

Gateshead College Greenhouse & Starbucks
Location: Baltic Campus, Gateshead College
Price: £

An obvious spot to eat, located inside of Gateshead College the Greenhouse has Starbucks coffee and a menu of fresh, fast meals. You can get jacket potatoes, sandwiches, sweet potato fries, soup and lots of daily specials. Great for when you’re in a rush or want to continue to work while you eat!

Zapatista Burrito Bar
Location: Ridley Place & Grainger Street - Newcastle Upon Tyne
Price: ££

If you have time to venture over to Newcastle on your lunch break, or just in general, Zapatista Burrito Bar is a must. Burritos, fajitas, nachos and salads will fill you up for a marathon study session or a coursework marathon. They have a new meal deal out which consists of a burrito, fries and a drink for £7. They also have free wifi, so you can take your laptop in and study while you eat.

Boots
Location: Northumberland Street and Eldon Square
Price: £

Another famous spot for a meal deal with lots to choose from including salads, wraps, sandwiches, flatbreads and more with some amazing sides and drinks available for £3.29, Boots is an obvious choice for a healthy and cheaper meal. The only problem with this is that Boots in Gateshead Trinity Square don’t stock food.

Eat4Less
Location: Northumberland Street
Price: £

Eat for Less is about as cheap as it comes when it comes to places to eat. You can get a jacket potato, filling and can of pop for £1.99 or a sandwich, fries and can of pop for £2.29.
