If you’re over 19 and want to study a Level 3 or above qualification, which includes A Levels, Access to Higher Education Diplomas and other vocational qualifications, you can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan to cover the costs of the course fees.

You don’t have to take a loan, but if you do, it means you can start your course now and pay the course fee back at a later date in small, easy to manage instalments.

  • No upfront fees or payments
  • No credit check
  • Repayments only start once you earn over £21,000
  • Pay back as little as £7.50 a month

How do repayments work?

Repayments are linked to how much you earn when you’ve finished your course. You won’t have to pay anything back until your income is over £21,000 a year. You’ll then pay back a small percentage of the money you earn over £21,000 and repayments will be taken directly from your bank account.

Access to Higher Education Diplomas

If you didn’t get the traditional qualifications needed to study a degree when you were at school, such as A Levels, you can study an Access to Higher Education Diploma as an adult to get the grades you need. And, if you’re over 19 years old, you can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan to cover the course fees.

If you then go onto complete a higher education degree course, the remaining balance of your loan, including any interest,  will be ‘written off’, which means you won’t have to pay it back.

How to apply

  • Decide which Level 3 or above course you’d like to study
  • Apply online or come along to an Enrolment Event
  • Ask for a Learning and Funding Information letter once you’ve applied
  • Apply for the loan via Student Finance England here.
