If you want to work as a teaching assistant, classroom assistant, learning support assistant or special needs assistant in a primary, secondary or special school, this course is for you. It replaces the NVQ Level 3 teaching assistant qualification.

Course Content

The course covers the following units:

  • Child Protection

  • Importance of positive relationships

  • Supporting learning activities

  • Equality, diversity and inclusion

  • Observation and Assessment

We'd like you to be over 16 years old, be working in a school at foundation stage or key stages 1 to 4, throughout the course and have a wide range of responsibilities in school, either as a paid employee or a regular volunteer.

Days & Times

Wednesdays 5pm to 8pm.

An interview is required and a DBS check is required.

Qualifications needed

2 GCSEs grade C (4) or above in English and maths.

Basic ICT skills.

Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy qualification.

One year work experience.

You will need to have a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check before starting this course.

Required experience

Relevant work experience in a childcare setting - this will be discussed at interview.

The cost of this course varies depending on your age and circumstances.

If you are under 19 years old, this course is free.

If you are aged over 19 years old you may qualify for free or reduced price course fees, depending on your circumstances.

If you already have a full level 3 qualification and are aged 19 years over, you can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan or pay the fee upfront in full and qualify for a 10% discount.
