Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing

Would you like to become a qualified Fitness Instructor for free? This course is funded by the European Social Fund allowing Gateshead College to provide the course completely free of charge to most* people.. The next course starts on Saturday 24th February. 


This qualification is for those who want to pursue a career in the health and fitness industry as a fitness instructor and is awarded by Active IQ who are one of the leading and widely recognised awarding bodies in the fitness industry.


This course will take place on Saturday mornings at the Academy for Sport making it ideal for students who are in work but wanting to upskill or change their career direction.


The course is for individuals with a passion for fitness and who can demonstrate experience of training in a gym environment. It is the ideal starting point for those wishing to work at gym instructor level in a health or leisure club. The course will cover exercise and fitness knowledge, including anatomy and physiology, posture and core stability. You will also learn how to structure a gym programme, how to programme safe and effective exercise for a range of clients, the health benefits of physical activity and the importance of healthy eating.


At the end of the course you will be able to communicate with clients effectively, motivate clients to follow an exercise programme and be able to deal with different client groups, such as older adults, ante and postnatal clients and disabled clients.


You will be assessed by way of two online theory exams. You will also need to complete a number of worksheets that will be marked by your tutors. For the practical you will need to plan and deliver a gym session, this will be assessed by our qualified assessors.


The course is delivered by experienced tutors at Gateshead College Academy for Sport, where you will have access to excellent industry standard facilities and equipment.
