Throughout the course, you'll develop your technical skills in producing:
- Complex pastry products
- Marzipan pastillage and sugar products
- Complex bread and dough items
- Cakes, biscuits, sponges and scones
- Chocolate products
- Hot and cold desserts
- Healthy dishes, sauces coatings and fillings
You will build your knowledge of essential health and safety information and how to be an effective team member.
Throughout the course, you will be assessed by building a portfolio of evidence and observation of practical tasks in the kitchen.
During the course, you will need to wear a Gateshead College catering uniform which you will need to buy, along with a course book and knife kit. We will discuss this with you at your interview and induction.
On completion of the course, you can progress onto Level 4 or a Foundation Degree in hotel and catering management.
Alternatively you could progress straight into employment. Pastry chefs are in demand and there are also opportunities for those interested in setting up their own business.
