Course overview
This two year course is awarded by the University of Sunderland and is in essence, the first two years of their BSc in Exercise, Health and Fitness but is studied at our Academy for Sport, with the option of the third year (BSc with Hons) to be based at the University (or apply through UCAS for any national University) on graduation from the course.
Foundation Degrees are delivered in a more supportive and vocational style with the emphasis on developing YOU as an individual and preparing you for the vocational situations which will arise across a range of roles within sports and recreation, whilst focussing on developing your higher level study skills to assist you to achieve your potential in academia.
The delivery of the programme is flexible and is delivered over two days of the week to allow students to consider aspects such as further study opportunities, gaining extra vocational experience, self-study time and overall to make students into "employable" sports and recreation workers.
As part of the course you will study the many theoretical facets which underpin the vocational areas of exercise, health and fitness, whilst also gaining vocational skills and experience through individually-tailored work placements with the various service providers across the North-east of England (Schools, colleges, local governing bodies, council sports development providers, hospitals, exercise referral schemes, private clubs and leisure centres are just some examples of where we currently have placements available).
You may be thinking now- where will I end up? Successful graduates from our course have gone onto achieve their BSc (Hons) and have moved into roles such as P.E. teachers, Physical Training Instructors, Personal Trainers, Sports Masseurs, Sports Development Officers, Performance Exercise Specialists and GP referral specialists to name but a few. And with hard work and dedication your name could be added to our many successful employed graduates. If this sounds like the course for you, apply now!
