This part-time course, validated by University of Sunderland, is designed for those who are working in, or would like to work in, a professional role in the health and social care services, including social work and nursing. This hands-on programme is centred around work-based learning, allowing you to put your theoretical knowledge into working practice.

What are the career opportunities?

Foundation degrees are recognised by employers regionally and nationally as they include both knowledge and skills and are underpinned by professional values and principles. This programme prepares you for work in a range of careers including mental health, care work, domestic violence support, drug and alcohol teams, disability support, youth work and family support work.

Can I progress to a BA (Hons) degree?

Yes. This programme forms the first two years of a full degree programme, allowing you to complete a further year at university to achieve a BA (Hons) degree.

Qualifications needed

2 GCSEs grade C (4) or above in English and maths.

3 A-levels or a BTEC Extended Diploma (DMM or above) or their equivalent, such as an HEFC.

Any student whose first language is not English must hold an IELTS with a minimum score of 6.0 or equivalent.

Full time programmes will require 56 UCAS points gained from A Levels/BTEC qualifications or equivalent.

You will need to have a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check before starting this course.
