An innovation for the industry; an example for educators.
Gateshead College's revolutionary Live Studios simultaneously deliver real world work experience and an HE qualification.
Working alongside industry professionals you’ll work on commercial quality titles for mobile devices and consoles. You’ll create stunning, exciting games, applications and visual effects, while experiencing practical and purpose-driven master classes that show you the software, the shortcuts and the workflows.
Not industry standard... simply: industry
The industry spoke and we listened. It's not a degree from a university or a homemade slideshow that gets you into the business, it’s speed, accuracy, versatility, creative thinking and, most importantly, experience and a portfolio of real work.
Everyone working in our Live Studio will be encouraged to work freelance. We'll even let you use College studio equipment and facilities. With luck, patience and hard work you’ll earn some money and if there's a problem, don't worry, you’ll be surrounded by professionals pleased to help.
And when it's time to leave us...
Everything you do with us is about preparing you for a career in the industry, whether running your own business or acting as an invaluable member of someone else’s.
Live briefs. Live projects. Live studio.

How will I be assessed?
The most important thing you'll build on the course, aside from your confidence, is your portfolio. We'll assess you on your ability to produce excellent things to put in it, and you're ability to do it on time and in budget. We'll also get you to look at how the business works and how you might fit into it, and we'll test you on that too.
How will I be taught?
For most of the time you'll think you're in a job. You'll be in a studio, working on live, real and realistic briefs and actually generating product. You'll get masterclasses, tutorials, small group work, big group work, time to play and experiment, and experience of production workflows and studio dynamics that mirror the way the business actually works. And it may even be fun.
160 UCAS points from A Levels or an equivalent study programme in a relevant area (art, design, graphic design, media, multimedia etc). GCSE A*-C grades in English and Maths are desirable.
