This programme is run in partnership with, and validated by Northumbria University and is accredited by CIBSE, the Chartered Institute for Building Sevices Engineers.
A career in Building Services Engineering will provide you with a wide and varied range of work, from domestic dwellings to historic buildings as well as industrial, commercial, sporting and even scientific projects both here in the UK and abroad. An example of this would be the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where British consultancy companies are currently employed carrying out work designing the Building Services for the stadia and areas for fan access.
This area of work has many challenges, complying with customer requirements or installing equipment unobtrusively in listed or historic buildings. With these challenges comes a great level of job satisfaction, and means working in an environment where no two days are the same.
Working alongside architects and other professionals, you will be designing and overseeing the installation of both mechanical and electrical systems, including lighting, power, heating and ventilation as well as plumbing services.
The systems you design must be user friendly, easily controlled and energy efficient, as the world looks to sustain resources and lower costs.
Modules you will study include:
- Construction environmental and structural technologies
- Environmental analysis
- Energy: heat transfer
- Parametric modelling using REVIT
- Fundamental mathematics
