Uniformed public services includes the armed forces, police, fire, prison and paramedics. This course has been designed to help you build the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to progress successfully into a role in one of these services.
What will I study?
The course covers four core units and three optional units which are taught through a mix of classroom study, activities and field trips. Some units are based on health and fitness, others on research and group work. You will also have the chance to build on your interpersonal and communication skills and learn how to be an effective team player - an essential skill in any public service.
You'll receive an individual learning programme tailored to you that will help you build on your strengths and address your weaknesses, with challenging targets that will stretch you to reach your full potential.
Similar to the real life services, you'll be asked to wear a uniform - a Gateshead College polo shirt and hooded sweatshirt, which you can buy at your induction.
You’ll have the opportunity to join one of our nine sport academies, where you will get:
Up to 9 hours of professional training each week, access to competitions and specialist sport academy coaches
Free access to physiotherapy assessments and treatment
The opportunity to compete in local, national and international competitions
A personalised training and development programme
Access to some of the best facilities in the country with two 11-a-side 3G football pitches, sports
science and medicine facilities, a performance lab, an aerobics studio and a superb 83m long athletics hall
If you prefer not to be part of a Sport Academy you will complete an employability project designed to further develop your employability skills.
What can I do after the course?
You can choose to progress to our Level 3 course to further your skills and knowledge, step into work or move onto an apprenticeship. One of the biggest employment areas in our region, the services offer a variety of job roles and progression from entry level through to senior positions.
