Do you have a passion for sport? Do you want to make a difference and improve the sports performance, participation, health or fitness of people in the UK? If the answer is yes, then this could be the course for you!

 

This programme will provide learning experience individually tailored for you, to prepare you for entry into higher education or directly into a sports-related job. We'll focus on developing not just your academic ability, but your vocational skills and employability.

 

The course is planned around you to get you to where you want to be. The first year of the course will contain a BTEC Foundation Diploma in Sport, and you will gain work experience with one of our sport industry partners. All of this will help you along the road to deciding the type of role you are suited to and prepare you for work.

  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Event organsiation
  • Sport research

 

On completion of year one, you will be offered a variety of academic and vocational routes which include completion of your Extended Diploma in Sport or a vocational route which will provide further qualifications for you to work as a coach or fitness instructor.

 

Sport academies

You’ll have the opportunity to join one of our nine sport academies, where you will get:

  • Up to 9 hours of professional training each week, access to competitions and specialist sport academy coaches

  • Free access to physiotherapy assessments and treatment

  • The opportunity to compete in local, national and international competitions

  • A personalised training and development programme

  • Access to some of the best facilities in the country with two 11-a-side 3G football pitches, sports science and medicine facilities, a performance lab, an aerobics studio and a superb 83m long athletics hall

  • If you prefer not to be part of a Sport Academy you will complete an employability project designed to further develop your skills.

Your course will be delivered by highly qualified academic and coaching staff. Our staff are ambitious, talented and passionate about making your experience at college the very best it can be. They have up to date industry experience to share with you and the energy and enthusiasm to help you to get where you need to be.

Employment edge

During your time at college you'll have the opportunity to take part in a number of activities to give you added edge in the jobs market- designed to support and help you develop the job skills, experience and confidence you need to progress to employment or higher education. This could include starting your own business and developing your entrepreneurial skills, joining the enterprise society, sport, jobs fairs, competitions, volunteering, visits and experiences linked to your career ambitions.

 

About the study programme

Your study programme based at our Academy for Sport will give you the opportunity to continue your academic development.  We will  also enhance your employability skills by providing you with a work placement, guest speakers and visits to companies working in this industry.

 

Teaching, learning and assessment

You will be assessed by your tutor through various methods including assignment work, practical sessions and course work.

Guidance is required and a DBS check is required.

Qualifications needed

5 GCSEs grade A*-C (9-4) including English Language and maths.

This course is free to those aged 19 years and under.

Most people aged 19 years and over can qualify for free or reduced course fees. This depends on your individual circumstances.

If you already have a full level 3 qualification and are aged 19 or over you can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan or pay the fee in full upfront, minus a 10% discount.
