This qualification extends the first year course to enable you to complete the full Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care which will allow you to apply for degree level courses or to enter the workplace. At this point options are available to allow both a health studies or a social care pathway depending on your interests or career choice. This includes nursing, social work, psychology, criminology or forensics.
The college has excellent links with many relevant and high quality work experience placements. As part of your study programme, you will complete work placements and gain real 'hands-on' experience in a relevant setting such as a care home, hospital or other specialist area.
Your main programme will include topics such as:
- Anatomy & Physiology
- Enquiries into Current Research in Health & Social Care
- Promoting Public Health
- Work Experience in Health & Social Care
Optional units include:
- Health Psychology
- Understanding Mental Wellbeing
You will be expected to develop your skills through group work as well as working on your own. You will set an individual learning plan, setting your own targets during tutorial sessions and there are opportunities for you to stretch and challenge your own learning and development. You will complete a range of assessments including poster and presentation work, assignments, case studies and projects.
You will follow a study programme to help you develop a range of skills that will support your progress to employment or to further study and will give you the edge in the jobs market. This will include English and maths by continuing to embed and build on your skills as these subjects are relevant to the industry you are interested in working in. You will develop skills in communication and multi-disciplinary teamwork as part of professional development workshops, and will complete projects that enhance the curriculum such as those around equality and diversity, fundraising and entrepreneurial skills. You will be required to achieve all these aspects of your course as well as the main programme.
