Gain a vocational qualification that gives a basic introduction to the sector. This programme will give you the knowledge and understanding of child development and well-being necessary for working with children in a variety of settings. It is aimed at a range of learners who wish to be introduced to childcare and development for children aged 0-5 years. It will also give you an insight into your preferred learning styles and assists in developing your ability to study.
You must be at least 16 years of age. You do not need to be working or undertaking practical placements to study for this qualification; however, a placement will be arranged for those learners who are work ready.
Assessment is via two internally assessed graded Assessment Tasks and an externally assessed Synoptic Assessment unit, which is assessed via a Multiple Choice Paper. The Award is graded from A* to D. You can progress to the following qualifications:
Level 2 Certificate and Diploma in Child Care and Education
And further progression to:
Level 3 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Child Care and Education
English and maths
To enable further progression you will study English and maths and participate in individual and group tutorials to strengthen employability skills as part of a full study programme.
