If you're heading for a career in the media industry, this course will give you practical TV and video production skills and professional experience that will stand you head and shoulders against your competition when going into employment or further study.


The emphasis of the course is on production. This will include production of music videos, narrative led pieces, factual programmes and advertising production. Students will also get the opportunity to produce a five-minute film on a topic of their choice.

All students on the course are offered the opportunity to work with industry and take on commercial commission work.


During the course you'll work with local charities and community clients on ‘live’ commissions. We've a great track record of producing high quality commissions for our clients and some have been used by regional and national broadcasters. Working to real commercial timescales and pressures is one for your CV!


We need enthusiastic creative students who love the moving image and want to translate that love into products that will stir an emotional response from their audience.


Media skills are used in a wide variety of careers and it is not just about broadcast TV. Media graduates go on to work in corporate video, advertising, public relations, web design, events management, theatre, working on art installation and other careers where communication skills play a major role.


The course also acts as a pathway into Higher Education with the Extended Diploma being equivalent to three A levels. You can achieve up to 168 UCAS points on completion of this course.

How will I be assessed?

Continuous assessment using class based assignments and portfolio of evidence

The courrse is assessed by a range of assignments including research activity, presentations and group tasks. There are no final exams.

How will I be taught?

A mixture of classroom, practical and workshop work.

The course is very practical, and is delivered by tutors with a wealth of experience.

Qualifications needed

This course is Level 3 - you will need to have the equivalent of at least four GCSEs at grade C (4) or above - preferably including English and maths. For vocational programmes, it would help to have a relevant qualification at Level 2 or appropriate expe

This course is free to those aged 19 years and under.

Most people aged 19 years and over can qualify for free or reduced course fees. This depends on your individual circumstances.

If you already have a full level 3 qualification and are aged 19 or over you can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan or pay the fee in full upfront, minus a 10% discount.
