How do you secure your life online and support your future employers to protect their infrastructure? In the coming year, hackers will launch increasingly sophisticated attacks on everything from critical infrastructure to medical devices.
This study programme will give you with the vital skills and knowledge to enable you to protect IT systems and make you a vital asset to any business.
It will teach you the fundamentals of encryption, investigate how hackers penetrate systems and provide strong cyber-defence tactics. Starting with the basics of building computer systems to supporting and maintaining network technologies.
You should have a basic knowledge of PC systems either through use of your computer at home or the subjects you have studied at school.

You will complete the following commercial projects set by our employer partners:
Project 1 - Specify and Build a Computer System: Learn how to plan, monitor and implement a project using IT to help you to specify and build a computer system for a client. By completing this project, you could also sit the Cisco IT Essentials exam which has the potential to lead into the professional CompTIA A+ certification.
Project 2 - Design and Build a Network Infrastructure: Working alongside Perfect Image you will design and virtually build a network infrastructure to suit the needs of a client. This will involve consideration of a range of network system devices and network operating systems. As the devices and operating systems need to communicate with each other you will investigate a number of protocols and standards. Industry standard technology will be used to implement your design virtually.
Project 3 – Cyber Security: There are now more than 120 separate families of ransomware, said experts studying the malicious software.
"Ransomware and crypto malware are rising at an alarming rate and show no signs of stopping," said Raj Samani, European technology head for Intel Security.
This project takes an in depth look at the cyber security issues organisations face in securing their network infrastructure. You will investigate different encryption techniques, firewall technologies and attempt to penetrate a network.

Along with this you will be part of an employer based mentoring scheme where you will work with a mentor from a local business to help improve your skills further. The possibilities with this scheme are endless, students have been given real-life projects to work on, visited their mentors at work and been given opportunities to showcase their work. This scheme, along with our tutorial programme will help you become work ready as well as preparing you for the outside world with training on money management, help with job hunting, interviews and confidence building.
English and maths
You use these skills all the time in work and they are crucially important for employers. Studying English and maths in college is different to school and you will see how these skills are relevant to the industry you are interested in working in. We look at what you can do when you join us and then we’ll put a programme together which best meets your needs and aspirations. This might mean working towards a pre-GCSE qualification or towards an A*-C grade in GCSE English and maths and, if you’ve already achieved this, you’ll continue to build on your skills in these subjects.

You could progress into a role as IT Technical Support, Network technician, Network Administration, Network Security, Digital Forensics or Telecoms.
