Low carbon vehicles
Major changes are under way in the manufacture of vehicles of
all kinds as we attempt to meet stringent new environmental
regulations. These include the application of a range of new
materials and technologies, and the development of low carbon
motive units, including hybrid and electric vehicles.
Our activities in this area include:
- Research and development
- Vehicle testing
- Skills enhancement through a range of training programmes
- Consultancy
The College has invested heavily in new facilities to deliver
the research, training and consultancy needed to underpin the move
towards low carbon vehicles.
These include the new Skills Academy for Sustainable Manufacturing and
Innovation (SASMI) at the Nissan site in Sunderland, and the
nearby Low Carbon Vehicle Research & Development Centre and
Test Track.
