Intermediate Apprenticeship in Barbering

This apprenticeship covers a wide range of professional roles within barbering, including customer service skills, building an awareness of professionalism and a passion for the industry.


The professional values developed will include industry codes of practice and ethics, quality assurance systems, time management principles and commercially viable times for the completion of services. All of which will meet the professional standards you expect your team to demonstrate to meet the high demands of this competitive industry.


Apprentices may be assessed on site for practical work and will also visit college one day every two weeks for theory and practical work delivery and tests. 


The core delivery includes:

  • Advise and consult with clients
  • Shampoo condition and treat hair and scalp
  • Develop and maintain effectiveness at work
  • Cut men's hair using basic techniques
  • Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques
  • Dry and finish men's hair
  • Create basic outlines and detailing in hair
  • Colour and lighten mens hair


The development of a wide range of skills has been planned to ensure apprentices are skilled to meet the ever changing trends of barbering and quickly become part of your professional team.


We support the apprentice through all aspects of the apprenticeship and have regular contact with employers including reviews every 8 to 10 weeks.


Apprentices are encouraged to complete functional skills qualifications to level 2.


Apprentices are encouraged to progress to an advanced apprenticeship on completion of their apprenticeship.


Apprentices being assessed completely on site for practical work also visit college half a day every two weeks for theory and practical work delivery and tests.
