Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Wood Occupations

This apprenticeship is delivered on day release over two years. The apprentice spends one day per week in college and the rest of the week will be spent at work. College time consists of a mixture of workshop and theory lessons with the emphasis being on practical skills. The type of work covered is flooring, roofing, frame fixing, partitions and staircases. Apprentices will also cover second fixing operations and carpentry maintenance.

This programme has been developed to allow the apprentice to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in Site Carpentry.

It covers the following skills:

  • Carry out first fix flooring and roofing
  • Carry out first fix frames, partitions and stairs
  • Carry out second fixing operations
  • Carry out carpentry maintenance
  • Set up and operate a circular saw

This apprenticeship combines study with practical learning on-the-job. Apprentices attend college on a day-release basis. Apprentices will study core subjects such as site carpentry, bench joinery and fitted interiors. The apprentice will gain evidence from their place of work, which will contribute towards the achievement of their apprenticeship.

Apprentices will study the following qualifications:

  • Level 2 NVQ Wood Occupations
  • Level 2 Diploma in site carpentry
  • Level 1 Functional Skill Maths
  • Level 1 Functional Skill English
  • Employees Right and Responsibilities
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

Course Duration: 2 years

Apprentices are required to compile a portfolio of jobs completed at work to prove their competence. Our assessor will visit regularly to assist with this and provide you with feedback.
