Advanced Apprenticeship in Professional Competence for IT and Telecoms Professionals

The Advanced Apprenticeship Competence for IT and Telecoms Professionals is a suite of qualifications developed by employers for apprentices working in the IT and Telecoms sector.

This apprenticeship programme is designed to prepare learners for employment and are suitable for those who have decided that they wish to enter a specific area of work within the IT and Telecoms industry.

The types of job roles your apprentice could  be doing in your organisation may include the following:

Software/ Web Developer - creating software applications and websites

Desktop Support Engineer -  installing and troubleshooting desktop PCs

Network Planner -  designing and planning the installation of IT and Telecoms networks

Database Administrator - responsible for the maintenance and security of organisation's databases

Network Engineer - maintaining company networks, including servers, software and security

Software Tester - testing software applications before they are released


Mandatory units: Health and Safety in ICT Develop Own Effectiveness and Professionalism

Examples of some of the optional units available include:

  • Customer Care in ICT
  • Interpersonal and Written Communication Data Modelling
  • Technical Fault Diagnosis
  • Working with ICT Hardware and Equipment
  • Investigating and Defining Customer Requirements for ICT Systems
  • Managing Software Development Creating Procedural Development

The apprenticeship will be achieved by gaining practical experience at work and participating in off the job training outlined above. 

Apprentices will be supported by a /assessor who will deliver on site work assessments, 1-1 progress reviews, advice and guidence and mentoring. 

The apprenticship will last for 18 months and apprentices will achieve the Level 3 Diploma in Professional Competence for IT and Telecoms and the Level 3 Certificate or Diploma in ICT Systems and Principles.
