Intermediate Level Apprenticeship In Vehicle Maintenance and Repair - Heavy Vehicle

Apprenticeship content

The heavy vehicle technician is responsible for servicing and maintaining vehicles exceeding 3500kgs permissible maximum weight. Typical activities include:

  • Carry out routine vehicle maintenance - conducting scheduled examinations, and make adjustments and replacements items and components and service vehicles

  • Fault finding - carrying out the identification of mechanical faults.

  • Rectify simple system faults by replacing and testing components and units.

  • Inspect vehicles - carrying out standard tests and record results.

Our service

Once your apprentice has started work, you'll be given a dedicated support team responsible for looking after your progress. They will:

  • Draw up your training plan and detailed training schedules showing when they'll be away from the business, what skills they'll learn, allow them to balance their workload with their training
  • Send you advance notice of training schedules
  • Assess your apprentice's portfolio of work-based training
  • Visit every 6-8 weeks to discuss their work and update their schedule with you
  • Ensure your apprentice achieves the targets you set

Duration

The apprenticeship will take 12 months to complete and apprentices will attend Gateshead College for one day per week.

The place of study

Your apprentice will train at our Skills Academy for Automotive, Engineering, Manufacturing & Logistics on Team Valley, Gateshead. This start of the art academy, one of the best in the North East, features purpose built workshops specifically designed for motor industry training.. All our workshops are fully equipped with the latest vehicles and industry standard equipment giving you the best experience and skills.
